News and Articles

In this section, you'll find some of our past research and published articles on various topics. We have a passion for researching unique finds, and we believe that understanding a coin's background enhances the joy of owning it.

Coin hoards are often discovered in Britain and provide a wealth of numismatic knowledge. When found, these hoards can be studied and often reveal fascinating details about our historical coinage. Roman coin hoards, particularly from the 4th century A.D., are the most frequently found. However, hoards from the Iron Age/Celtic period, Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Norman, and Medieval times are also occasionally discovered. Many of these are acquired by museums through The Treasure Act, but some are returned to their finders, which is where we come in. We offer conservation, research, and publication services for hoards, ensuring that the coins and the information they hold are preserved for future generations to enjoy and study.

We are happy to provide free advice and would love to hear from anyone who has been fortunate enough to find or own a hoard.

Below, you'll see examples of our work and the finds we've handled. With more experience in this field than any other dealer or auction house, we are well-equipped to assist you. Our Director has even discovered a few hoards himself!
